Gary Peterson has been a part of Minnesota’s arts scene for more than 25 years, as managing director of Ananya Dance Theatre, executive director of the Southern Theater and James Sewell Ballet, manager of Zenon Dance Company, and as Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre’s first manager. He studied dance at the University of Minnesota, MacPhail Center for the Arts, Zenon Dance School, and with Patrick Scully. He has produced hundreds of performances for James Sewell Ballet at more than 300 domestic and international venues, including five visits to New York City.

Gary has served frequently on grant review panels for the Minnesota State Arts Board, Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, and Jerome Foundation. He served on ad hoc committees to establish the Mike Steele Arts Criticism Scholarship Fund at the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and to raise more than $100,000 in flood relief for arts organizations in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Gary holds a BA degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota. He has hosted a public affairs radio program, published a community newspaper, worked as a legal assistant, and served on Hubert H. Humphrey’s Washington Senate staff.
